Simple Summery Birthday Card

20140321_071458

How have I not shared this card?  It just feels like summer to me, with the bring colours and that happy flower.  Here you go.  I’m thinking I didn’t share because that big bold flower stamp has been discontinued, but don’t worry, there’s something similar to take its place.

Need a quick but beautiful birthday card? This is totally your answer.  You can do this in all different colours.  Strawberry Slush plus Coastal Cabana is pretty spectacular too.

Now go, create!

Sweet moments card

2014-03-04 17.49.29

This card reminds me of the garden I’m trying to grow.  It’s a bit funny that I grew up with farmer parents, with degrees in agriculture, plant and soil science backgrounds… and I never learned to grow a darn thing.  When we bought our house, I was super excited that it had a back yard so I could try to grow some of my own organic fruits and veggies.  I’m proud to say that a few things have sprouted and are happily growing in my non-garden!

I’ve got a few onions, salad greens, and spinach.  Hopefully the strawberries, thyme, rosemary, and mint all stay happy.  And hopefully I can keep the compost happy enough to make something useful for next year.

Back to the card.. sweet spring moments and happy times…

Fun funky flowers watercolour card

PicsArt_1395180005836

Hap hap hap happy day…!

This card makes me smile, which is pretty much its purpose, so I guess that’s a good thing.  I get a bit crazy and goofy since I’m up at 5:30am to get my workout done.  Weight lifting can be draining, but I’ve really been enjoying my current Body Beast program!  Muscles, they’re happening.

This card, it happened.  It’s super simple, and quick to put together, unless you struggle for hours with bows like I do.

Basic Black, Real Red, and Coastal Cabana inks

The new craft room in my new digs

20140424_103514

OK so it’s been 4, nearly 5 months since we moved and I got a new craft room.  I’m juuuuust finally starting to get it set up in a way that is useful to me.  There will continuously be new organizing to do, especially if I stay in the habit of getting new fun things to play with.. But really, I just like to organize!

I got 2 of these great desks from Ikea. It’s so nice to have all of this table space!

20140424_103527

Colours all organized…

Oval Punch Bow Card and Free Christmas Cards Workshop

20131112_101459

Hello hello!

Things have been pretty slow on this here blog, haven’t they?  I haven’t had a whole lot of time to be very creative.  I’ve still been teaching lots of classes, but don’t have the chance to come up with my own designs very often.

We’ve bought a house and get possession in just over a week!  Then renos happen, and we move in right before Christmas!  It’s chaos!

On top of that, I’m right into the health and fitness coaching. It’s so nice to be able to support others on their journeys. I really believe that we can all take control of our health, it’s just not always easy.

I’m placing what will likely be my LAST order before Christmas this week, so let me know if you have anything you’d like me to tack on there!

Back to the stamping!  Here’s a card I did recently in one of my classes.  I love using the oval punches to make little bows like this.  You could do something similar for a birthday card too.

Free Christmas Class:
I’m hosting a free Christmas Card afternoon at my house on Sunday, December 1st at 1pm.  Come, make some cards, enjoy some holiday treats and tea.  This is a fun and relaxing way to make a few Christmas cards!
Please contact me to sign up so I can make sure to have enough space and supplies for everyone.

Making a Great Scrapbook Paper Rack

20131006_130316

I don’t know about you, but I’ve struggled with different methods of storing my 12×12 sheets of Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper (it’s scrapbook paper, which I use all the time in card making).  I had it standing upright in a paper storage holder, a bit like a magazine holder.  No good. I couldn’t see what I had!

Next, I spread some of the sets out over a few shelves that I managed to free up of other things.  This took up a LOT of space, and didn’t really let me see many of the papers either.  Then I found this awesome tutorial while browsing through craft room ideas on Pinterest.

It’s not free to make, so why didn’t I just go buy a similar rack?  They just aren’t for sale! At least, not around here.  I found a few on EBay for $100+, which I wasn’t about to pay.  Plus, I LOVE this one. It’s perfect.  The 1” spacing is great, although you can always leave 2” if you prefer.

The cube shelving units are about $35 here in Canada (Canadian Tire, Walmart, Target), and Zap Straps are another $5-$8.  My rack uses two shelving units, but I was donated one of them for free, so I think I invested about $43 into this.  I’d imagine you could do it for less if you found some shelving units at thrift shops.

20131002_195314

I started by putting together a cube using zap straps, and then adding the shelves in.  Finish one level and create another.  Snip off all the sticking out ends and it looks pretty good. Zap ties are strong, so they’re perfect for this project.

Here’s my completed paper storage rack, with 18 shelves.  Love it!  There’s something so rewarding about making something useful for yourself!

Happy Birthday Frame Card

IMG_4452

Hello!

I started a new fitness program yesterday, in the form of a challenge.  I’ve learned that this is how I have to do things because I don’t love to work out.  It’s a chore to make myself do it, no matter how good I always feel afterwards.  I have crazy motivation once I’ve committed to a program, so I know I can always stick to the schedule.  It’s when I don’t have a schedule that things go haywire (ummm, the last 3 weeks of not doing much physical activity).

The program I’m doing seems to be good for anyone because you do it to your own level.. Meaning it’s always challenging.. It’s 25 minutes long, 6 workouts per week.  The idea is to double up on Fridays, but I’m not sure how that’ll go for me.  I figured I could fit in 25 minutes no matter how busy life gets.  Go go gadget willpower!

In the card world, I’ve been holding out on you!  This card.. well, I made it months and months ago, and thought I’d already shared it, but the blog says otherwise.  Oops!  Isn’t it stinkin’ cute? I love creating frames with those framelits dies!  And of course, the Fabulous Florets again :)  And and, coordinations cardstock, and that awesome honeycomb die.  It’s Shauna heaven.

Yeah, I could easily stare at it all day.  It’s one of those cards that I have to only give to the extra special people in my life ;-)  Either that or I’d better make 50 of them.

Materials:
Pool Party, Crumb Cake, and Whisper White Cardstock.  Calypso Coral DSP.
Calypso Coral and Basic Black Inks.
Fabulous Florets Stamp Set.
Big Shot and Honeycomb Embossing Folder, and Deco Labels Framelits Dies.

Shimmer and Inks Fabulous Florets Card

IMG_4445

I learned this technique a while back from another demonstrator at a local get-together we had.  I love those because I always learn so much!  I’ve sponged on some ink and then spritzed the oval with the Smooch Spritz in Vanilla Shimmer. It’s such a pretty effect.  The splotchy dot parts are from a stamp I got in one of my Paper Pumpkin kits.

Once again I’ve used the Fabulous Florets set, and am just smitten with the effect. Clean, simple, elegant. And I love love love this colour: Bermuda Bay – brought back from retirement.  I might have to paint my walls this colour.

Happy Birthday Convention Swap

20130709_152120

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind of activity and travelling for me, with not a whole lot of time to take it all in and mull over everything.  It started with my trip away from the family to attend the 25-year Stampin’ Up! convention.  I met lots of people, saw a lot of stampers who are far more obsessed than I am, and had some fun getting inspired by all kinds of neat projects.

There were parties, there was the chance to play with new products, and there was nail polish in Stampin’ Up! colours.  Yep, nail polish heaven for me!

I shared a hotel room with 3 other demonstrator friends, which meant I had some built-in company.  The experience wouldn’t have been as good if I’d gone all on my own.  I will admit that I dropped the ball a bit on my workouts, but I did make it to the gym for a quick half-hour workout!

This card was my swap card.  I made 10 of them to trade for others’ creations.  Great fun!  See that pretty Strawberry Slush (the pink colour) flower and ruffled ribbon? Yep, I got to put on nail polish in that colour.

20130709_152131

Materials:
Bermuda Bay, Whisper White, and Baked Brown Sugar Cardstocks.
Whisper White and Bermuda Bay Stamp Pads.
Label Love and Betsy’s Blossoms Stamp Sets.
Big Shot and Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder, and Floral Frames Framelits.

CASED For You Any-Occasion Card

IMG_4447

Friends! New colours! They’ve been here for a month now, and I’m only just getting to play with them.  FINALLY, right?  This one is with Coastal Cabana, which I adore.

This card is a very CASED one that I got from Bada-Bing! Paper Crafting!  I swapped out the yellow for some beautiful Strawberry Slush, and the Pear Pizzaz for Basic Gray. I’m in love with this colour combo. Hearts all around.  And isn’t that white doily stuff cool? It’s a tape! You just snip it to the length you want, and stick it on. Easy peasy.

Oh, about my little life.. An update on the broken wrist! It’s feeling pretty darn good, although I have very little rotation ability.  I’m working hard at it, and it seems to be very slowly improving, so that’s a good sign.  I’ve been back playing ultimate for a month or two.  I started out trying to play left-handed, but quickly forgot about that and have been able to play with the right size.  And since I’ve started my workout program, I’ve had so much more energy and have been able to run FAST! (at least fast for me).  I’d always felt like the slow girl, so this is a big step up! It’s really given me confidence again.

Back to the card… Pretty colours? Yes.. Maybe I should bedeck my house in the colours… get some paint colour-matched. What do you think? Add some of that doily trim here and there.. no? Too much? Darn!

IMG_4448

Notice the really subtle flowers on the bottom left? I stamped those in Versamark. Love that effect!

Materials:
Coastal Cabana, Basic Gray, and Whisper White Cardstocks
Versamark, Coastal Cabana and Strawberry Slush Inks.
Label Love Stamp Set.
Delicate Details Lace Tape, Basic Gray Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon, and Whisper White Baker’s Twine.
Big Shot and Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.
3/4” Circle Punch, and Artisan Label Punch.

Happy Day Flowers Card

IMG_4450

Hello hello hello!  I’m still alive, for real!  I’ve been putting a lot of work into becoming a Coach with Beachbody, and working on my own health and fitness.  I’m really excited to be able to help others on their journeys. It’s so very rewarding!  Shameless self-plug: If you want to check out our blog, or facebook page, please do! Give us a like :)  We share stories, tips, recipes, and motivation!

I’ve gotten into a groove and have been able to fit in my workouts, healthy eating, AND now more crafting again.  Thank goodness!  It’s so nice to be back in stamping mode, creating and teaching classes again.

Here’s a card we recently made.  I got the design from a friend who is a fellow demonstrator on Vancouver Island.  I’ve just made a few changes, and I think it came out very well!  This Fabulous Florets set has been my go-to stamp set since the day it came out. I still adore it; every card turns out beautiful!

And have you seen this awesome coordinations cardstock?  It’s white on the inside, so you can zip it through the Big Shot with an embossing folder, then use a sanding block to get that 2-tone look. So pretty, right?  I’ve used a few things that you can’t get anymore.. oops! The sentiment stamp is from Sale-a-bration freebies, and the Lucky Limeade cardstock has been retired, but Gumball Green is a perfect substitution.

IMG_4451

Summer! That’s what this says to me. Happy happy summer! There are sunny days to come, time spent on the lawn, in the pool, with friends on sunny patios.. Sipping cocktails.. Oh yes!

Materials:
Pool Party Core’dinations Cardstock, Naturals Ivory Cardstock, Epic Day This and That DSP
Basic Black Ink
Fabulous Florets Stamp Set
Big Shot and Little Leaves Sizzlits, and Honeycomb Embossing Folder.

Precious Mothers Day Card

20130513_080308

Mother’s Day happened at our house, which seems like a pretty epic thing to me.  Nathan let me sleep in (until I decided it was time to get up at 7:30am).  He got up when Lila did, and did all the morning things. Yay! Next, we went out for a super yummy brunch at Moxies with the in-laws.  I split a stuffed French toast and a bacon cheddar omelette with my mother-in-law. Great choices!  Bonus: us moms were given a beautiful gerbera flower to take home. Sweet little details, right?

Nathan and Lila made me this precious card.  This is pretty epic, considering how much Nathan is NOT into crafting, nor is he into doing things like this with Lila.  Isn’t it cute?  He said he searched Pinterest for ideas (and again, he’s totally not inter pinterest like I am).

20130513_080317

The rest of my day was spent baby wrangling and cleaning up our crazy house. Never-ending battle there, let me tell you!
